History Woodstock Maryland

Woodstock is an unincorporated community and a suburb of Baltimore, Maryland. It was founded as a mining town due to the granite quarries in the area.  It was Thomas Browne, the Texas Ranger that explored westward through Anne Arundel country via Clarksville that first settled in the area in 1702. The Mt. Pleasant Log home was constructed by members of the Brown family during that era.  In the civil war of the 1860s, the confederate General Bradley Tyler Johnson used Mt. Pleasant for weapons storage and to send messages and hide from advancing Union soldiers.

The current population of the city numbers only 7,720 people. 64.1% of the population is Caucasian, 8.2% is African-American, 26% is Asian and 0.1% is of American Indian descent.

The Woodstock Inn – The most popular place in town that serves huge sandwiches. The menu offers a variety of foods and is always fresh and thoughtfully prepped. The burgers are amazing as well as the salads and the ahi tuna bites if you are looking for something healthier. A good neighborhood place to eat.

Yamahana – The sushi is fresh and tasty. Staff is always friendly and a great place for a family meal. You can dine in or carry out. They have an awesome selection of fresh rolls along with teriyaki meals with salmon or chicken. The edamame and small salads are crisp and fresh. Moderately priced.

Players Bar & Grill – This is a great local place that offers an extensive menu and lots of good selections. Do try their famous buffalo wings and the cheesesteaks. The hamburgers are quite popular too. They also offer a rotating draft beer selection and the happy hour prices are quite good too.

Fun Things to Do in Woodstock

Howard County Conservancy – great place to learn about nature, star gazing during the Perseid Meteor Showers. Staff are well informed and very helpful to guests. There are hiking paths and environmental programs too.
