History Glen Burnie, Maryland
The original name of the community was Glennsburne and was established in 1812 by Elias Glenn, a district attorney. The name was changed to Glennsbourne Farm and finally to Glenburnie when the property was inherited by Glenn’s descendants. When the grandson of Elias Glenn by the name of William Wilkins Glenn died, his son, brother and nephew inherited the business and properties. Glenburnie became an official state subdivision in 1888. It would not be until 1930 when the postmaster of the time, Louis J. De Alba decided that the community name be spelled as two words rather than one hence Glen Burnie.
