History Ellicott City, Maryland

The city was founded in 1772 and has stayed an unincorporated community. It is a census designated place and is the county seat of Howard County.  On April 24, 1771, three Quaker brothers established a flourmill and purchased 50 acres of Baltimore County. John, Andrew and Joseph Ellicott founded Ellicott Mills and ultimately became the largest milling and manufacturing towns in the East.  When 2 of the brothers sold their stakes in the business, the town retained the name Ellicott’s Mills.

Tersiguel’s – Perfect place to spend your wedding anniversary or a romantic date night. Service is impeccable and the food is amazing. Do try the wonderfully prepared escargot and filet mignon. For dessert, do try the crème brulee.

Grille 620 – Best place to enjoy happy hour, which goes on until 7:20 on some days.  The steak strips are marinated and cut in house. A definite local favorite.  Small restaurant but very well decorated.  Do also try the beef Carpaccio, tuna and Gnocchi lobster.

Shannon’s Saloon – This is by far one of the best restaurants in Ellicott City. They serve the best crab cakes and their tenderloin is absolutely delicious.  Service is personal, impeccable and always with a smile.

Ghost Tours – The city has a bustling tourism trade in ghost tours as it has long been known for many ghost sightings and stories that accompany the rich history of the town.

Ellicott City Farmers Market – This is a town staple every Saturday.  You can buy local, farm-fresh foods and goods while listening to live music.

Forget-me-not Factory – This is a 3 story toy store with everything a kid can ask for from costumes to dragons and action figures to doll houses and mini race tracks.

Patapsco Valley State Park – This Park stretches for 32 miles of the Patapsco River. Lots of recreational areas and over 14,000 acres of land.
