History of Annapolis, Maryland
During the 17th century, Annapolis resembled a village community but grew rapidly for the most part of the 18th century. Up until the American Revolution it was the political and administrative capital and a port of entry for the Atlantic slave trade. The Maryland Gazette, an important weekly journal was founded here. During this time water trades like oyster packing, sail making and boat building were considered as the main industries. When the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783, Annapolis became the temporary capital of the United States. It was here where General George Washington resigned his commission as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army.

Vin 909 Wine café — Definitely one of the “go-to” restaurants in the city. Food is always consistent and prices of wine always competitive. It is a cozy, unique local restaurant that offers great food and wine pairing. Offers seasonal menu changes.
Jalapeno’s – This Mexican restaurant offers super service and amazing food. It is consistently delicious and there are many different options to choose from on their extensive menu. Don’t be discouraged by the strip mall location. Interiors are very nice. Do try the very infamous sangria and the paella options.
Boatyard Bar & Grill — No visit to Annapolis is complete without a stop at the Boatyard. They serve the best soft shell crab anywhere. Do try the artichoke and spinach sandwich. Service is always outstanding. The cod filet is absolutely delicious.
Fun Things to Do in Annapolis
William Paca House and Garden – this is a grand colonial era home that was completed in 1765 for William Paca, a rich young planter and one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. It features a 2-acre garden with 5 terraces and a fish-shaped pond along with a wilderness garden.
US Naval Academy Museum – What visit to Annapolis would be complete without a tour of the US Naval Academy Museum. Established in 1845 you can enjoy exhibits related to naval history and training of sailors and marines by the US Naval Academy.
Governor’s Mansion – the official residence of Maryland Governors sine 1870, it is a Georgian-style country house that was constructed in the period style and houses portraits by Charles Willson Peale, one of the most prominent painters in the US.
